Global Destination Health, formerly Minnesota International Medicine (MIM) acquired by GMS in 2007, is the medical tourism and concierge division of Global Medical Services.
Medical tourism, simply put, is the term used to describe any time someone travels to another country for medical care. There are many reasons for this. It could be to receive treatment by the most world-renowned hospital or to seek the latest life-saving treatment for an illness which a patient's own country does not yet offer. Often people who have the desire and the means to travel to another country unfortunately never do because they are just too overwhelmed with the coordination needed, travel options and unknown costs. As if having a medical need is not taxing enough, when you add the prospect of traveling to a country where you are not likely to know anyone or possibly even speak the language, for many people it is just too overwhelming.
Global Medical Services saw this problem and wanted to solve it which sparked the creation of a first-class concierge service for medical tourism patients and their families, Global Destination Health. Now with only a phone call or email to our Global Destination Health division, patients are connected with a Concierge/Care Coordinator. Care Coordinators help patients find the best care and solutions for their medical tourism needs including everything from picking the right hospital or doctor to transportation. GMS Global Destination Health seamlessly connects patients with Virtual Health, the Telemedicine division so they can communicate with doctors before and after travel. Technology makes healthcare globally accessible through our advanced database of high-quality providers via web services, mobile applications, and advanced digital marketing. Our Care Coordinators not only get the medical tourism process started, they interface with patients throughout the whole process from pre-planning, to flying home, and even after-care. Using our Total Care Approach, global clients are matched with the best doctors and hospitals, and gain access to the best treatment. This includes access to less expensive overseas treatments and non-FDA approved therapies for our American clients.
